2 eggs
2/3 c sugar
2 c milk (this is wrong)
1.5 oz yeast
3 t salt
1 T crushed cardamom
½ lb butter or ¾ c cooking oil
About 2 ¼ lb white flour
1/3 c raisins
Egg yolk for glazing
Almonds for decorating

Steps:

  • Let all ingredients come to room temperatures. Heat the milk to hand temperature. Beat eggs and sugar, add the milk, yeast, slat and cardamom. Add enough flour to give a thick, elastic mixture. Beat vigorously to get air in the dough. (This helps the dough rise well.) Mix in the rest of the flour. And finally the better. Knead dough until it separates completely from your hands. Place in greased bowl. Cover dough and let rise to double in size. Punch down and add raisins. Dump on to floured surface and knead. Braid. Let rise another 30 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
