Pride of Kentucky Pecan Pie image

This recipe was the only winner by a male to win the State Crisco American Pie Contest. (1989-Haskell Montgomery). All his ingredients say Kentucky, from the sorghum to the home grown mint to the pecans soaked in bourbon.

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 c granulated sugar
3 Tbsp all purpose flour
1 tsp dried mint leaves, crushed
1/8 tsp salt
3/4 c light corn syrup_karo only you can use sugar- free karo
2 + 2 large whole eggs + 2 extra yolks
1/2 c sweetened condensed milk
1/3 c butter or margarine,melted
3 Tbsp pure maple syrup
1/4 c sorghum
3 Tbsp good honey
2 Tbsp vanilla extract
1 c pecans, soaked 2 to 3 days in 1 cup 80 proof bourbon, drained
3/4 c black walnuts -if you can't find these use regular walnuts
1/4 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 large unbaked 9 or 10 inch classic crisco single pie crust

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350^ In a large bowl,combine all ingredients,Except the pecans, walnuts and chocolate chips. Spoon into unbaked pie shell (you may have a little left- pour into buttered custard cup and bake with the pie- that way the cook gets the first sample). Bake for 50-70 minutes or until center is set. Cool to room temperature before serving.
