Dating myself! 1979, I was 19 years old and newly married. My downstairs neighbor, Linda Garlington made this, and the aroma wafted up to our apartment. Number Of Ingredients 13

DRY INGREDIENTS:
2 3/4 c flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 c wheat germ
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
WET INGREDIENTS:
1/2 c shortening
1/2 c orange peel (zest)
1 c sugar
2 eggs
NEXT:
1 c fresh squeezed orange juice

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 375.
  • 2. Mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
  • 3. Wash the oranges, zest the peel, and get 1 cup of fresh juice from the oranges.
  • 4. Cream together the sugar, shortening and orange rind. Then add the eggs to mix thoroughly.
  • 5. Blend in dry ingredients alternating with orange juice. Beat together until thorough moistened and blended.
  • 6. ***** IMPORTANT****** Grease the baking pans well! Remove from pans immediately and cool. Best served warm with real butter!
