Old Fashion Blueberry Cake image

This recipe has been in both sides of my family tree for so long that nobody knows how old it is. The one side always called it blueberry while the otherside called it huckleberry ... I wonder if this is two different berries or is it one and the same? ....

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 c butter, creamed
2 c granulated sugar
3 large egg yolks, whites reserved
1 c milk
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
3 c all purpose flour
3 large egg whites
1 qt blueberries, fresh

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Prepare rectangled baking pan with non stick spray.
  • 2. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks and mix. Add nutmeg and cinnamon to flour and mix baking soda in little warm water and add to batter. Alternate flour and milk and mix. Beat egg whites but not too stiff. Fold into batter. Flour berries and add to batter gently.
  • 3. Pour into prepared baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. Do not ice this cake.
