Oatmeal Cookies image

This recipe was handed down to me by Mrs Pauline Sharp who founded my childhood church.

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/3 c shortening
1/2 c sugar
1/4 c brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 c flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice, ground
1 1/4 c quick cooking rolled oats
1/2 c raisin

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • 2. Grease cookie sheet.
  • 3. With wooden spoon, cream together shortening, sugar, and brown sugar.
  • 4. Add egg, milk, and vanilla.
  • 5. Mix well.
  • 6. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
  • 7. Stir spice into creamed mixture. (To measure 1/8 tsp., measure 1/4 tsp. and with narrow spatula push half off.)
  • 8. Add oats and raisins.
  • 9. Mix well.
  • 10. Drop rounded teaspoosfuls onto greased cookie sheet.
  • 11. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  • 12. Use wide spatula to remove cookies from cookie sheet.
  • 13. Cool on cooling rack.
