Steps:
- Toast nuts at 325°F until light brown (8 minutes). Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. When beaten, add salt. Beat until partially stiffened. Add sugar gradually until stiff. Fold in vanilla. Mix nuts with meringue. Melt butter in 9"x 14" cake pan in 325°F oven. Spread nut mixture over butter. Bake about 30 minutes, stirring several times until nuts are coated a golden brown and no butter remains. Cool. Mixture will dry out when cool.
