NEW MEXICAN RED CHILE SAUCE image

Yield Makes 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 t vegetable oil
1/2 c finely chopped onion
1/2 c New Mexico chile powder
1 garlic clove, minced
1 c canned crushed tomatoes
3 T honey
1 t ground cumin
1/4 t black pepper
1 (14 1/2-oz) can vegetable broth

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onion; saute 4 minutes. Add chile powder and garlic; saute 1 minute. Stir in tomatoes and remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes.
