Mother's Applesauce Cake image

Great memories of this cake; it smells incredible when it's baking. Makes a great snack cake without frosting!

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cup(s) all purpose flour
1 1/2 cup(s) sugar
2 tablespoon(s) cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2 teaspoon(s) each: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves & allspice
1 1/2 cup(s) unsweetened applesauce
2 - eggs
1 cup(s) raisins
1 cup(s) chopped nuts
2 tablespoon(s) sugar

Steps:

  • Sift dry ingredients. Drop in: 1/2 cup shortening. Mix. Add 2/3 of 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce. Beat. Add eggs. Add remaining applesauce.
  • Fold in raisins & nuts. Pour into greased rube or rectangle pan. Sprinkle top with sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees 35-45 minutes, until inserted toothpick comes out dry.
