Steps:
- 1. Core and slice tomatoes; arrange in shallow serving dish. Sprinklel shallots over tomatoes. Whisk together the olive oil and balsamic vinegar, then pour over tomatoes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving (can be refrigerated, covered, for up to 3 days). Eat with French bread, and dip bread in marinade after tomatoes are done. You can add fresh cucumber slices around the tomatoes as well. And use warmed baguettes for the bread.
