MARINARA SAUCE image

Yield 4-6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 c chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 T olive oil
1 28-oz can tomatoes, cut up
1/4 c dry red wine (optional)
1/4 t salt
1/8 t cayenne pepper
1/8 t ground black pepper
1/4 c snipped fresh basil
2 t sugar
8 oz dried pasta, cooked according to pkg. directions

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium saucepan, cook onion and garlic in hot oil over medium heat until onion is tender. Stir in undrained tomatoes, wine (if you like), salt, cayenne pepper, and black pepper. 2. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered 25-30 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Stir in basil and sugar. Cover, cook 5 minutes more. Serve over pasta.
