1 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
2 cups packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon maple flavoring
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups vanilla or 2 cups white chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon maple flavoring
4 -6 tablespoons milk
3 1/2 cups pecan halves

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, butter and brown sugar.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Beat in vanilla and maple flavoring.
  • Combing the flour and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture.
  • Stir in vanilla chips and pecans.
  • Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2-inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream butter and powdered sugar.
  • Beat in maple flavoring and enough milk to achieve a spreadable consistency.
  • Frost cooled cookies.
  • Top each with a pecan half.
