You can easily make this a vegetarian soup. Just leave the ham out and replace the chicken broth with vegetable broth or water.

Steps:
- Rinse the lentils and place in a slow cooker.
- Dice onion and celery small. Add to slow cooker.
- Peel and dice the carrots. Add to cooker.
- Add the remaining ingredient to the slow cooker. Stir to mix well.
- Turn the slow cooker on high. Cover and cook for 4 hours.
- Add more water if necessary. Stir occasionally.
