What can I say, girlfriends? It is not uncommon for my husband to serve me mimosas, along with breakfast in bed, on a Sunday morning. You think he's looking for something in return? I figure we work hard all week and he's just treating me special. I tell you what, though: Nothing kicks off a lazy, loving Sunday like a sip of bubbles. We make these drinks one at a time, allowing the shifting strawberries to mix the drink as you sip, but you could also combine the ingredients in a large serving pitcher.

Yield serves 2 on a lazy sunday (or 4 on a more productive one)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup pink sanding sugar (see note to preceding recipe)
6 to 8 fresh strawberries, stemmed and halved
One 750ml bottle brut champagne or Prosecco
Splash blood-orange juice, plus more as needed
1 tablespoon Grand Marnier, plus more as needed

Steps:

  • Dip the rims of two or four champagne flutes in water. Dip in the sanding sugar. Drop several strawberry halves into each glass. Fill each glass about two-thirds with champagne, leaving room for a splash each of blood-orange juice and Grand Marnier. Serve immediately, and repeat as necessary.
