Steps:
- Scrape the ginger root and cut into thin slices or crush with the side of a large knife on a cutting board. Combine all spices with water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower heat to simmer, cover pan and simmer for 45 minutes. Raise heat to return to boiling. Add tea or tea bags, cover pan. Shut off heat immediately. Allow to steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Strain into a warmed teapot and serve. If sweetened tea is desired, sweeten with honey or sugar. Milk can also be added.
