Homemade funnel Cake image

Texas Rodeo is coming to town but I can't wait two weeks to get my hands on one of my favorite desserts so I make my own. The funnel cakes are to die for at the carnivals!

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/4 cup(s) unsifted flour
2 tablespoon(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
3/4 teaspoon(s) baking powder
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1 - egg
3/4 cup(s) milk
1/4 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
2 cup(s) cooking oil
CAN USE A SAUCEPAN OR FRYING PAN FOR DEEP FRYING. YOU CAN USE A SMALL PITCHER TO POUR OUT THE MIX INTO THE HOT OIL OR A MEASURING CUP.ANYTHING WITH A SPOUT WILL WORK.

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients and the cinnamon. Mix well. Add milk and egg to dry mix. Stir until batter is smooth.
  • Using a deep fry thermometer to monitor the oil's temperature,heat oil to 350 degrees. When oil is heated, start pouring mix around in a circle going around 4-5 times, then zig,zig across center to fill in holes. When funnel cakes starts to brown, use tongs to flip over and brown other side. Browning should take 30-40 seconds. Lift funnel cake out of oil with tongs and let excess oil drip into pan and transfer to plate. sprinkle with powdered sugar or garnish with your favorite topping. Enjoy!
