Hand-Me-Down Chocolate Cake image

3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/3 cups water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, beat for 1 minute at medium speed.
  • Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Alternately add with water to creamed mixture.
  • Pour into 2 greased and floured 8" cake pans. Bake for 35-40 min. Cool and frost.
