Grandma's Poor Man's Cake - Great Grub, Delicious Treats image

Grandma's Poor Man's Cake - This is a delicious and easy vintage poor man's cake recipe made with simple pantry ingredients and no eggs. Easy and delicious.

Number Of Ingredients 15

12 or 15 oz box raisins
3 cups water (divided)
2 Tbs shortening
2 cups sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
4 cups flour (divided)
1 cup water
2 tsp baking soda
8 oz cream cheese
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350° and spray two 9 x 5 baking pans or a 13 x 9 baking dish with non stick spray. Set aside.
