Ginger Cookies image

I have tried several molassis cookie recipes looking for the right one and had almost given up. Then I visited my Aunt Doris, and she shared her recipe with me! This is lovely cookie!

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 c sugar
3/4 c butter flavor shortening
1 egg
1/4 c molasses
2 c + 1 tblsp all purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground gloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. Cream the shortening and sugar together.
  • 3. Add egg and beat until fluffy. Then add the molasses and beat thoroughly.
  • 4. Sift (or whisk) the flour, ground cloves, cinnamon, ground ginger, soda and salt, and add to shortening and sugar mixture.
  • 5. Roll into 1 inch balls, then roll in sugar.
  • 6. Place on cookie sheet and press lightly with a glass dipped in sugar.
  • 7. Bake @ 350 degrees for 14-15 minutes. Let cool 2 minutes, then remove from pan to cooling rack.
