Fudgy Macaroon Bars image

Number Of Ingredients 15

4 ounce(s) unsweetened chocolate
1 cup(s) butter
2 cup(s) sugar
1 cup(s) all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
3 - eggs, lightly beaten
FOR THE FILLING
3 cup(s) flaked coconut
1 can(s) 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1/2 teaspoon(s) almond extract
FOR THE TOPPING
1 cup(s) 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup(s) chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • In a microwave, melt chocolate and butter; stir until smooth. Remove from the heat; cool slightly. Stir in the sugar, flour, salt, vanilla and eggs. Spread half of the batter into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine the filling ingredients. Spoon over chocolate layer. Carefully spread remaining chocolate mixture over filling.
  • Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until the sides pull away from the pan. Immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips. Allow chips to soften for a few minutes, then spread over bars. Sprinkle with walnuts. Cool completely before cutting.
