Fresh Tomato Salsa image

I am a fan of fairly straight-forward salsa... nothing too fancy or exotic. This basic recipe packs all the flavor punch you could want. I recently tried adding the oregano and now it's my new "secret" weapon... Give it a try!

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 lb vine-ripened tomatoes
1/2 c chopped onion
1 c fresh cilantro
1 serrano or jalapeno chiles
2 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp sugar
3 Tbsp lime juice
kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper
oregano, dried, to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Quarter and seed tomatoes.
  • 2. Dice the tomatoes and transfer to a bowl.
  • 3. Finely chop onion and cilantro.
  • 4. Seed and chop the chiles.
  • 5. Stir chiles, onion, cilantro and garlic into tomatoes with sugar and lime juice and season with salt, pepper and oregano.
  • 6. Note: For a less chunky texture, try using a food processor or blender... works great!
