Food Processor Pie Crust image

I love kitchen gadgets and appliances that do much of the work for me! Makes 2 crusts.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cup(s) flour
1 tablespoon(s) sugar
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
3/4 cup(s) vegetable shortening (butter flavor)
1 large egg
1 teaspoon(s) apple cider vinegar
3 to 4 tablespoon(s) cold water

Steps:

  • In food processor, combine flour, sugar and salt. Remove top of processor and ADD in the shortening. Turn processor on. Combine egg and vinegar in small bowl and then add to flour mixture. (I pour in while machine is running) While food processor is engaged in mixing the above items together, begin to add the cold water, 1 Tablespoon at a time until the dough become moist enough to form a ball and it spins around the processor bowl.
  • Now the dough needs to be rolled out and put in pie plate. I find it best to cover my mat that has an outline of pie shell dimensions with plastic wrap. Then I put 1/2 of the ball of dough on the center of the wrap. I cover the dough with another sheet of plastic wrap. Now I use rolling pin to roll out dough to the size I need to fit my pie plate. Remove the top sheet of plastic wrap. Put your hand under the bottom sheet and the pie crust dough. Invert the pie plate over your hand holding the dough; Flip everything over so that the dough is in the pie plate. Remove the plastic wrap. Using your fingers, crimp the edges and repair any "holes" you see. This dough is very forgiving.
  • If you want to have an unfilled pie crust, Bake at 450 degrees for 9-12 minutes until lightly browned.
