Flour Tortillas image

The key to a soft tortilla is soft dough.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 c warm water
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 c oil
1 1/2 c whole wheat flour (i use freshly ground)
1/2-3/4 c unbleached all purpose flour

Steps:

  • 1. Place liquids in bowl.
  • 2. Add the dry ingredients.
  • 3. Knead until the dough is workable but not stiff. (Keep the dough moist for soft tortillas.)
  • 4. Let stand 10 minutes.
  • 5. Pull out golf size tortillas & place onto floured board.
  • 6. Either roll with floured rolling pin or press down with fingers. Of course you could press with a tortilla press if you have one. I like pressing down with my fingers because I feel like I get a better shaped tortilla.
  • 7. Cook on a griddle on both sides until slightly golden.
