Delicious Apple Crisp image

This apple crisp is so good, delicious may not be a strong enough adjective. We'd say it's amazing. We couldn't wait for it to bake based on the aroma wafting from the oven - it just smells of autumn. The different textures and flavors from the apples make this special. With just the right amount of spice and crunch, the crisp...

Number Of Ingredients 13

FRUIT
6-7 medium Honeycrisp apples
3 or 4 small Fuji apples
3 or 4 small Stayman Winesap apples
1 c sugar (approximately)
3 Tbsp ground cinnamon
CRISP
3/4 c light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c all-purpose flour
3/4 c oatmeal, uncooked
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 stick butter, melted

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375. Spray 9X13 pan with cooking spray.
  • 2. Peel and slice apples right into the pan. Mix it up so that you don't have only one variety of apple in a spot. I just dump all the apples on the counter and start peeling. Of course, I save all the peels and cores to either put out to feed wild life or to put in the compost pile.
  • 3. Feel free to adjust the amount or variety of apples to fit your tastes or the main motivation what is on hand. Honeycrisps are sweet, Fuji and Stayman Winesap are more tart/spicy, but if you like all sweet then do that, if you like all tart, then do that.
  • 4. Cover the apples in the pan with the sugar. This is just a guesstimate of how much sugar to use because I just grab handfuls of sugar and sprinkle on top until all the apples are covered.
  • 5. After this, sprinkle with the cinnamon.
  • 6. Mix dry ingredients together in a small bowl while you are melting butter in the microwave. A stick of cold butter will usually melt in 1 minute in my microwave.
  • 7. Mix butter into dry ingredients. You can try to be delicate and mix with a fork, but it works best if you use your hands to get everything blended together and moist.
  • 8. Sprinkle your "crisp" over your apples. Again I use my hand so I can make sure that everything is covered and there are no large globs of crisp.
  • 9. Bake in 375 degree oven for 30-40 minutes. You should check it at 30 but I have found that every time I make this I do not like how it looks so I cook it 5 minutes longer, check again to make sure it isn't burning then it goes back in again for 5 more minutes making a total cooking time of 40 minutes.
