My husband's grandmother made these delicious onions as a side dish for all the family gatherings. Every time I make these I think of her and the wonderful holiday meals she made for the family.

Steps:
- 1. Cook onions according to directions on package. Drain well.
- 2. Meanwhile, in a medium size saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Mix well and cook over medium high heat for 2 minutes.
- 3. Add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook until thick and bubbly.
- 4. Add the cheese and stir to melt. Add the onions, mix well and cook an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
