Country Steak & Gravy image

We call our deep freeze the pit. I got a brilliant idea to use a plastic long container to line up my meat so it doesn't get lost down at the bottom. I have thrown out so much meat in the past. It is my husbands job to pick the meat out and I come up with what I am gonna cook for dinner. Yesterday he pulled out a chuck roast....

3 lb beef chuck roast
1 large onion, sliced
3 clove garlic minced
4 Tbsp canola oil (more if needed)
1 c flour
2-3 Tbsp montreal seasoning
salt & pepper
1 pkg brown gravy mix
1 pkg chicken gravy mix
water, as needed
optional-sliced mushrooms

Steps:

  • 1. Slice roast into thin slices. Dredge in flour & seasoning, salt and pepper.
  • 2. In a lg fry pan add oil & garlic. Place slices of meat and brown on both sides; remove when browned. Add more oil and saute onions till caramelized. Remove onions. Add water to the drippings and then the gravy packets.
  • 3. Add back in the meat & onions. Simmer on low for 1 1/2 hrs or till tender. Pour over rice or mashed potatoes. Can be made in the crock pot.
