There is nothing like a nice creamy slice of chocolate cream pie. Especially if the pudding is homemade. My Gram taught me how to make this pie years ago..her trick was the condensed milk..gives it a bit richer flavor..Yum!! You can serve this with meringue or cool whip..I made the meringue, but actually prefer it with whipped...

Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degree Assemble ingredients.
- 2. Prick your pie crust on the bottom and sides with a fork before baking.
- 3. In a medium saucepan; combine the sugar, cocoa, salt and corn starch.
- 4. Add one cup of condensed milk and 1 cup of whole milk, or 2 %, that's what I use. Using a whisk blend the mixture together and stir constantly over medium high heat. When the mixture is heated through add the 3 egg yolks, after tempering with a little of the hot mixture, so as not to have scrambled eggs. Stir continuously ; until thickened and bubbly.
- 5. Remove from heat and add the butter, and vanilla, mix well.
- 6. Cover your pudding with plastic wrap to prevent a film on top of the pudding; set aside. If you are just using whipped cream, fill the pie shell, add the whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired. Refrigerate to cool at least 2 hours.
- 7. For meringue: In a large bowl, beat egg whites, cornstarch and cream of tartar on high speed with an electric mixer. Mix until soft peaks form. Add sugar one tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition. Spread meringue on the pie. Broil to lightly brown the top. Do not walk away at this stage. It only takes a minute. Or you can bake in oven till desired browness occurs.
- 8. Enjoy!!
