How to make Cherry Crowns

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 package (3 ounce) cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg, separated
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup blanched almonds, finely ground
30 red candied cherry halves

Steps:

  • When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed of an electric mixer, until creamy.
  • Gradually add sugar beating well. Add egg yolk and almond extract, mixing well.
  • Gradually stir in flour.
  • Cover and chill 1 hour.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
  • Roll balls in lightly beaten egg white, and then in almonds.
  • Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets.
  • Press a cherry half in center of each ball.
  • Bake for 15 minutes.
  • Remove to wire racks to cool.
