Yield 10-12 biscuits

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cups self-rising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/3 cup Crisco shortening
3/4 grated Cheddar cheese
1 cup buttermilk
1 stick butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, crushed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder, and sugar together using a fork; cut in shortening until it resembles cornmeal. Add cheese. Stir in buttermilk all at one time just until blended. Do not overstir. Drop by 2-tablespoonfuls onto a well-greased baking sheet. Round the lumps with your hands. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Biscuits will not brown, but you should test one out of the oven, to be sure that it's not still doughy inside. Combine butter and garlic over medium heat until butter absorbs garlic; brush over tops of warm biscuits.
