CARAMEL WALNUT BARS image

Yield 24-36 bars

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 c unsifted flour
3/4 c firmly packed light brown sugar
1 egg, beaten,
3/4 c cold butter
3/4 c shelled walnuts, chopped
24 caramels, unwrapped
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated milk)

Steps:

  • Preheat over to 350 deg. In a large bowl combine flour, sugar and eff. Cut in 1/2 c butter until crumbly. Stir in walnuts. Reserve 2 c crumb mixer and press remainder firmly on the bottom of a greased 13x9 baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, in a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt caramels with sweetened condensed milk and remaining 1/4 c butter. Pour over prepared crust. Top with reserved crumb mixture. Bake 20 minutes or until bubbly. Coll. Cut into bars. Store loosely covered at room temperature.
