Butternut Cake image

A couple of years ago my fiance wanted a butternut cake for his birthday, ok no problem i found the recipe on Flora's Recipes, the problem was finding BUTTERNUT FLAVORING!!!!!!, i looked every where for it, finally i had to order it online, didn't cost a lot, just not readily available in our area. But wow the cake was awesome, and even better 3 days later

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 cup(s) shortening
1 1/2 cup(s) sugar
3 - eggs
1 3/4 cup(s) all purpose flour
1 teaspoon(s) baking powder
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1 cup(s) milk
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
1 tablespoon(s) butternut flavoring
BUTTERNUT FROSTING
8 ounce(s) cream cheese, room temperature
1 box(es) confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon(s) butternut flavoring
1 cup(s) chopped nuts( i used pecans)
1 stick(s) butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350. Mix shortening and sugar in a large bowl. Add and beat eggs into mixture one at a time. Add flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Beat well. Add vanilla and butternut flavoring. Beat well. Pour into 2 greased and floured cake pans or a bundt pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes, Cook cake before icing.
  • Let cream cheese and butter come to room temp. Beat all ingredients together, frost cooled cake.
  • I have used this same recipe and just swapped the butternut for other flavors
