How to make Buttermilk Cornbread - Arm and Hammer Recipe

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup yellow corn meal
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup melted shortening

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Sift all dry ingredients together.
  • combine egg and buttermilk. Add dry ingredients all at once, then melted shortening. Stir only until dry ingredients moistened. Pour into a greased 8x8x2-inch pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Makes 1 (8x8x2-inch) pan.
