Steps:
- In a large skillet heat oil and lightly brown beef; about 10 mins. Drain beef and reserve 3 TBS fat. Add onions and simmer until translucent, about 8 mins. Add garlic and simmer 1 min. In a large flameproof casserole combine beef, onions and garlic with all remaining ingredients except beans. Simmer, skimming off grease for 35 minutes. Add beans and simmer 10 minutes longer. Remove from heat, let stand for 3-4 hours. Reheat and serve.
