- Chop onion and bell pepper. Set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk ingredients ketchup through worcestershire sauce together. Set aside. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat; add onion and bell pepper and cook 4-5 minutes, stirring constantly, just until crisp tender (they will finish cooking later). Increase heat to medium-high; add ground beef to the onions and peppers and cook until meat is no longer pink, breaking it up into tiny pieces as it cooks. Drain off any liquid or fat. Stir in the sauce mixture and bring to a boil; then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until mixture is thick with only a little sauce left, stirring frequently. Season with salt, if desired. Serve on buttered, pan-toasted hamburger buns with hamburger dills, mustard, or whatever condiments you like.
