Beer Cheese Mozzarella Sticks image

This is the perfect game-day marriage. We put beer and cheese together to create a delicious sauce to smother everyone's favorite snack -- mozzarella sticks.

One 24-ounce package frozen mozzarella sticks
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Kosher salt
3/4 cup beer
1/2 cup half-and-half
Dash of hot sauce
2 cups grated Cheddar
1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning
1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives

Steps:

  • Cook the mozzarella sticks according to the package directions.
  • Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, mustard powder, smoked paprika and 1/2 teaspoons salt; cook, whisking, until smooth, about 1 minute. Whisk in the beer, half-and-half and hot sauce until smooth; bring to a simmer and simmer until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and whisk in the Cheddar until melted.
  • Put the mozzarella sticks on a platter and drizzle with the sauce. Sprinkle with the everything bagel seasoning and chives.
