BBQ Beef Brisket image

No one has ever turned away from my BBQ brisket and always ask for seconds ! If there is any left over we make sandwiches the next day. I have included the instrutions for oven and crock pot cooking. The one in the picture I made yesterday in the oven. This is before adding extra sauce. I prefer to let everyone do that...

Categories     Beef

Time 5h30m

Number Of Ingredients 16

5 lb trimmed beef brisket
RUB
2 Tbsp coarse salt
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp garlic powder
3/4 Tbsp onion powder
3/4 Tbsp celery powder
2 Tbsp coarse ground black pepper
SAUCE
1 c ketchup
1 bottle (10 oz) chili sauce
3/4 c packed brown sugar
1/4 c + 1 tablespoon of white vinegar (not wine)
1/3 c worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp liquid smoke
1 1/2 tsp ground mustard

Steps:

  • 1. Combine rub ingredients in a small bowl.
  • 2. Rub into brisket on both sides using all of mix.
  • 3. Place meat into 6 qt slow cooker or heavy cast iron dutch oven. (I use an oval one)
  • 4. Combine sauce ingredients in a seperate container and pour 1/2 over brisket. Save the rest for serving.
  • 5. Cover meat and bake at 350 for 4 to 5 hours until meat is tender or in crockpot/slowcooker on high for 5 hours or until tender. (I have had to cook it in crock pot as much as 8 hours depending on meat)
  • 6. Serve with reserved sauce. In the past I have added more sweetener to reserved sauce for table use.
