Banana Split Bars image

This cookie is always a big hit on a cookie tray. I enjoy making it for holiday celebrations because it is so festive looking. The taste is wonderful and does remind you of a banana split. Yumm. I hope you enjoy this yummy bar cookie that is a recipe from my "Best-Loved Chocolate Recipes" cookbook.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/3 c margarine or butter, softened
1 c sugar
1 medium egg
1 medium banana, mashed
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 c all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 c chopped nuts (i use pecans or peanuts)
2 c miniature marshmallows
1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/3 c maraschino cherries, drained and quartered

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Beat margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • 2. Add egg, banana and vanilla; mix well. Mix in flour, baking powder and salt. Sitr in nuts. Pour batter into greased 13X9 inch pan.
  • 3. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with marshmallows, chips and cherries.
  • 4. Bake 10 to 15 minutes longer or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan; cut into bars. [This cookie needs to be eaten within a few days as it drys out quickly and gets stale otherwise.]
