Banana Bread image

This was my Mom's recipe and I make it whenever I have a couple of over ripe bananas.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup(s) shortening
1 cup(s) sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
2 cup(s) flour, sifted
1/4 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1 cup(s) mashed bananas
1/2 cup(s) sour milk*
1/2 cup(s) walnuts, coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • Cream shortening, then add sugar. Beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time and beat well after each addition. In another bowl, mix dry ingredients. In a third bowl, mix bananas and sour milk. Add dry ingredients alternately with banana mixture to shortening/sugar mix. Stir in nuts and pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
  • *Add a small amount of vinegar to fresh milk to curdle.
