Baked Custard image

This is my exmother-in-laws recipe! She makes it to this day-everyone loves it. I have had this for at least 50 years.

Number Of Ingredients 6

6 eggs
3/4 c sugar
1/2 tsp salt
4 c milk, scalded
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
nutmeg, sprinkle on top

Steps:

  • 1. Beat eggs slightly. Add sugar, milk, salt, and vanilla. Mix thoroughly. Pour into greased casserole dish and sprinkle nutmeg on top ~much as you like. Probably 1/2 to 1 teaspoon.
  • 2. Place casserole in middle of pan leaving enough room on sides to add very hot or boiling water just halfway up on casserole dish.
  • 3. When knife in center comes out only slightly coated, remove from pan and out of oven. Use appropriate pot holders. Let cool. Bake at 325 degrees F - 1 hour
