Apple Brown Betty image

This is very good served topped with French vanilla ice cream on top :) This is a net picture.

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 medium granny smith apples ; peeled and sliced
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 c stale pound cake crumbs (can use coarse bread crumbs too)
4 1/2 Tbsp butter, room temperature
1/2 c sugar
pinch of salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp apple cider

Steps:

  • 1. Using 1 TBS of the butter , liberally coat a 1-1/2 Qt. baking dish.
  • 2. In a medium bowl , combine the apples and lemon juice and toss to combine.
  • 3. In a small bowl mix together the cake crumbs , 3 TBS. of butter , sugar , cinnamon , allspice and salt.
  • 4. Place 1/2 of the sliced apples in the buttered dish.
  • 5. Cover with 1/2 the cake crumb mixture.
  • 6. Add the remaining apples and drizzle with the apple cider.
  • 7. Top with the remaining cake crumb mixture.
  • 8. Dot with the remaining butter.
  • 9. Bake @ 375° for 45 minutes or until the apples are tender and bubbly and crust is golden brown.
  • 10. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping.
