Allie's Spicy Banana Bread image

This is a recipe I received from my Sister many years ago. I have made it countless times and it's always a hit. I've also given the recipe away to many. It isn't "spicy" in the traditional sense. Can be doubled or tripled and freezes really well. I also add 1 cup of walnuts, you can call me nutty.

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon clove
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup mashed banana
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350'F.
  • Grease and flour a 9/5/3 inch loaf pan with butter.
  • Sift flour with baking soda, salt and spices.
  • Cream butter and gradually add sugar, beating until the mix is light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time.
  • Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with mashed bananas and orange juice stirring only to blend.
  • Fold in nuts and vanilla.
  • Pour batter into the greased loaf pan and bake for 1 hour or till a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool 30 minutes in the pan.
  • Slice and enjoy.
