1930's Ageless Apple Nut Pie image

How to make 1930's Ageless Apple Nut Pie

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup refrigerated or homemade pie crust (1/2 package)
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
5 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 to 5 granny smith apples, peeled cored and thinly sliced
juice from half a lemon, optional
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Fill pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan or plate.
  • Prick with fork and crimp edges.
  • Bake about 10 minuites or until golden brown. Let it completely cool.
  • In a large bowl, beat 1 cup of the brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, and the flour, butter and walnuts together until crumbly, set aside.
  • Arrange half of the apple slices in crust. Pour in lemon juice.
  • Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup of brown sugar on top.
  • Add remaining appleslices and top with crumb mixture.
  • Reduce oven heat to 350 degrees F and bake for 1 hour or until brown.
