My favorite delicious healthy hot chocolate recipe that's both vegan and dairy free! This healthy hot chocolate recipe is made with a mix of both coconut milk + almond milk and naturally sweetened with pure maple syrup. The perfect nightcap during the chilly winter months!

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup light coconut milk (from the can)
1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (I use Ghirardelli's 100% unsweetened cocoa powder)
Pinch of sea salt

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients to a small pot and place over medium low heat. Whisk vigorously to combine and to get rid of any lumps of cocoa. Do NOT let the hot chocolate boil or you risk burning the almond milk, which can turn the flavor into something you do not want. Simply warm in the pot until steamy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Once hot chocolate is hot, remove from heat and pour into 2 mugs. Top with whipped cream, dairy free whipped cream, marshmallows or vegan marshmallows. Chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder on top are fun too! Enjoy!

RAW HOT CHOCOLATE - ULTRA HEALTHY BELIEVE IT OR NOT !!

Raw Hot Chocolate - Ultra Healthy Believe It or Not !! image

Cacao beans are the raw ingredient all chocolate is made from. Containing over 300 identifiable chemical compounds, Cacao is the most complex food substance on earth. Cacaos' abundance of natural anti-stress, anti-depressant and bliss inducing compounds, Serotonin, Tryptophan, Anandamide, Dopamine and PEA make Cacao natures answer to Prozac. These well studied neurotransmitters alleviate depression and create feelings of wellbeing. Cacao also contains MAO inhibitors which allow more of these feel good neurotransmitters to circulate in the brain for longer. Cacao beans are 500 times richer in anti-oxidants than blueberries; however it has been shown that the addition of diary produce actually blocks the body's ability to absorb them, so ground Cacao is best mixed with non-dairy liquids for hot chocolate, smoothies or shakes. Cacao is not only great for your mood; it is good for the heart too. Cacao is rich in magnesium, the primary mineral missing when heart problems occur. Magnesium increases overall vigour of the heart muscle and decreases blood coagulation which lowers blood pressure and helps the heart pump more effectively. Hot Chocolate that really is good for you !!
