PERFECT BBQ BAKED BEANS

Perfect BBQ Baked Beans image

I saw a similar recipe online a while back and have been amending it to make it my own. Everyone always loves these beans, and they are a sweet, filling, and yummy addition to a plate of potato salad and the smokey BBQ we all love!

Time 40m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, minced
2 tablespoons dry mesquite flavored seasoning mix
2 (28 ounce) cans baked beans (such as Bush's Original®)
¼ cup molasses
¾ cup brown sugar
¾ cup barbeque sauce
2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
2 pinches cayenne pepper, or to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and mesquite seasoning until the meat is no longer pink, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks, about 10 minutes. Drain excess grease, and transfer the meat mixture to a large baking dish. Stir in the baked beans, molasses, brown sugar, barbeque sauce, dry mustard powder, and cayenne pepper, and mix until any small lumps of brown sugar have dissolved.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the beans are bubbling and the flavors have blended, about 20 minutes.

PERFECT EVERY TIME BAKED BEANS

Perfect Every Time Baked Beans image

It took me years to find a simple baked bean recipe that was thick and rich. Several years ago this recipe was on a bottle of Montgomery Inn Bar-B-Que Sauce and I haven't tried a different recipe since! For a variation I use Sweet Baby Ray's Original Recipe Sauce also and I think I like it better...so use your favorite Bar-B-Que...

Time 1h30m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 can(s) 28oz. bush's original baked beans
1 c your favorite bar-b-que sauce i uses sweet baby ray's original or honey
2/3 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp dry mustard
1/3 c onion, finely diced
1/2 to 1 lb pork jowl, cubed & be sure to slice off the hard outer "skin"
1 Tbsp ground black pepper ( i know it sound like alot, but trust me, it won't taste like it)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350. In a 1 1/2 qt. casserole dish (sprayed with Pam) fold together the beans, brown sugar, BBQ sauce and dry mustard and pepper
  • 2. Take cubed jowl and saute in frying pan till edges start to caramelize. You may have to drain a little liquid off during this process because sometimes it gets a little watery like..but always leave a little fat in the pan....when jowl is caramelized on edges add the diced onion and saute until soft .
  • 3. Add jowl and onion mixture to the bean mixture in your casserole dish and fold everything together and bake uncovered for an hour or until casserole is bubbly. They will thicken the longer they sit out....ENJOY!

PERFECT BAKED BEANS

This recipe is so easy to put together. I use the canned beans instead of the dried beans in order to remove the step of soaking and boiling the beans. Also, in this recipe, I use sautéed bacon that is drained so the fat content is cut down extremely from the traditional salt pork. Enjoy with bacon and eggs or as a tasty side for BBQ ribs!
