1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon crushed peppermint candies (about 2 candy canes)
Optional: mini marshmallows to fill in any space at the top
4-5 cups milk (or non-dairy milk alternative)
1 (16 ounce) mason jar of peppermint hot chocolate mix
Optional: marshmallows or whipped cream

Steps:

  • In a 16-ounce mason jar, layer the following ingredients: cocoa powder, sugar, chocolate chips, crushed peppermint. Optional: top it off with mini marshmallows if there's extra room at the top.
  • Tie mason jars with ribbon or twine and a tag.
  • Shake content of the mason jar (minus marshmallows if you used them) until combined.
  • Add contents of jar and milk to small sauce pan over medium-low heat. Whisk regularly until chocolate chips and peppermint have melted, about 5 minutes.
  • Pour into mugs and (optional) garnish with mini marshmallows or whipped cream.

1 cup(s) unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup(s) granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2 cup(s) miniature chocolate chips
1/2 cup(s) crushed peppermint candy

Steps:

  • Layer powdered milk, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, chocolate chips, and peppermint candy.
  • Note: This mix will fill a 1-quart jar (12 servings), but if your containers are different sizes, just keep the ratio of ingredients constant. On the back of the tag, write: "Mix contents in a large bowl. For each serving, place 1/3 cup cocoa mix in a mug and stir in 1 cup boiling water. Store remaining mix in airtight container."

5-1/2 cups 2% milk
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
4 teaspoons crushed peppermint candies, divided
12 ounces white baking chocolate, chopped
3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
Miniature marshmallows, optional

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until bubbles form around sides of pan. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, beat cream until stiff peaks form. Fold in 1 teaspoon crushed candy., Whisk chocolate into milk until smooth. Remove from heat; stir in extract. Pour into mugs; top with whipped cream. Sprinkle with remaining candy and, if desired, marshmallows. Serve immediately.
