3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 to 2 tablespoons malt vinegar
1-1/2 teaspoons water
1 cup frozen french-fried potatoes
1/2 pound beef top sirloin steak
3 cups torn iceberg lettuce
1/3 cup chopped tomato
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • For dressing, whisk first 4 ingredients until sugar is dissolved. Cook potatoes according to package directions., Meanwhile, place a skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat. Add steak; cook until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°), 5-6 minutes per side. Remove from heat; let stand 5 minutes before slicing., To serve, divide lettuce, tomato and onion between 2 plates; top with potatoes, steak and cheese. Drizzle with dressing.

I lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years and never would have thought I'd ever see French fries in a salad. You will probably only see this recipe in Pittsburgh restaurants which makes it special and unique! It's very delicious. Add your favorite dressing.

1 ½ pounds sirloin steak
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
salt and ground black pepper to taste
cooking spray
1 (16 ounce) package frozen seasoned french-fried potatoes
13 ounces romaine lettuce, torn
1 cucumber, sliced
2 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced
1 ½ cups croutons
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Rub sirloin steaks with vegetable oil and season with salt and pepper. Let the steaks warm at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Prepare a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Spread French fries onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake French fries in the preheated oven until slightly browned, about 15 minutes.
  • While the fries bake, cook steaks on preheated grill until beginning to firm and are hot and slightly pink in the center, 6 to 8 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 140 degrees F (60 degrees C). Remove steaks to a cutting board.
  • Mix romaine lettuce, cucumber, and egg together in a salad bowl. Pile French fries atop the salad mixture.
  • Cut steaks into bite-size pieces and arrange atop the French fries. Sprinkle croutons and mozzarella cheese over the entire salad.

3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons canola oil
4 1/2 teaspoons malt vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons water
1 cup frozen French-fried potatoes
1/2 lb boneless beef top sirloin steak, thinly sliced
3 cups shredded lettuce
1/3 cup chopped tomato
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • For dressing, in a jar with a tight fitting lid, combine the sugar, oil, vinegar and water.
  • Shake well and refrigerate.
  • Prepare french fries according to package directions.
  • In a small skillet coated with non stick cooking spray, cook steak over meduim heat 8 to 10 minutes or until meat reached desired doneness.
  • On two salad plates, arrange the lettuce, tomato and onion.
  • Top with french fries, steak and cheese.
  • Shake dressing and drizzle over salads.
  • Serve immediately.

Arugula and Steak Salad with French Fry Croutons image

Transform everything you love about classic steak frites--juicy steak and crispy fries--into a salad with arugula.

3 cups frozen French fries (about half a 22-ounce bag)
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1 pound strip steak (3/4- to 1-inch thick)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard
2 1/2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 teaspoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
8 ounces baby arugula (about 12 cups)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Toss the fries with 1 teaspoon of the paprika. Lay out in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake until crispy, about 30 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the steak with 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Heat 1/2 tablespoon of the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. Add the steak and cook, flipping once, until brown on both sides and cooked to desired doneness, 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer to a cutting board (reserve the skillet) and let rest 5 minutes.
  • Add 1/4 cup water and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon paprika to the skillet and boil over medium-high heat, scraping up any brown bits, until slightly reduced, about 30 seconds. Remove from the heat stir in the mustard, vinegar, soy sauce, Worcestershire and the remaining 2 tablespoons oil.
  • Thinly slice the steak against the grain. Pour any accumulated juices into the skillet with the vinaigrette in the skillet. Toss the arugula and vinaigrette together in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Divide the salad, steak and French fries among 4 plates.
