I grew up on a farm and have had a lot of good recipes handed down to me. This is one of my favorite desserts to serve when guests come over or at family gatherings and church suppers. -Ruth Simon, Buffalo, New York

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup finely chopped walnuts
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup cold butter
FILLING:
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature, lightly beaten
1/4 cup 2% milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, walnuts, brown sugar and salt; cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set half aside; press remaining crumb mixture onto the bottom of a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned. , In a large bowl, beat filling ingredients until smooth; pour over crust. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. , Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 1 hour. Store in the refrigerator.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into tablespoons
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 medium eggs
1/2 cup flaked coconut
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
10 ounces white chocolate, coarsely chopped
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F.
  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl with electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar.
  • Beat in eggs, coconut and vanilla, then blend slowly until smooth,.
  • Add the flour mixture, chopped chocolate and pecans.
  • Scape the dough into the prepared baking pan and level and smooth the surface.
  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the center is set and the top is golden.
  • Place the pan on a wire rack to cool at room temperature before cutting into 16 bars.
