4 cups water
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes (undrained)
3 cups cabbage (shredded)
2 cups cooked ham (diced)
3 carrots (sliced)
1 1/2 cups celery (chopped)
3/4 cup onion (chopped)
1/2 cup bell pepper (chopped)
1 (16 ounce) can beans, of, your, choice (drained)
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons dried basil
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 bay leaves

Steps:

  • In large soup kettle, combine all ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1-1/4 hours.
  • Discard bay leaves and serve hot (Add cooked pasta, if you wish).

2 cups split peas, dried
3 cups cooked ham, cubed
1 onion, chopped
2 cups celery, sliced
1 (400 g) can corn kernels, drained
2 (400 g) cans peeled tomatoes
250 ml chicken stock
2 teaspoons seasoning salt
2 tablespoons cornflour

Steps:

  • Rinse and drain split peas in saucepan; cover with water, bring to boil and drain again.
  • Place peas in large slow cooker and add 5 cups water, ham, onion, celery, corn, tomatoes, stock and salt.
  • Cover, cook on LOW 7-9 hours.
  • Mix cornflour with 1/3 cup water in bowl, turn cooker to HIGH, add cornflour mix and stir.
  • Cook 10 more minutes until stew thickens.

1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup matchstick carrots
2 teaspoons minced fresh garlic
6 cups chopped cabbage
2 cups chopped cooked ham
2 cups diced potatoes
2 cups chicken stock
salt to taste
½ teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
½ teaspoon ground mustard

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion and cook until it begins to turn clear, 2 to 5 minutes. Stir in carrots and garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

2 pounds smoked ham hocks
4 medium carrots, sliced
1 cup thinly sliced celery
1 medium onion, chopped
8 cups water
2-1/2 cups diced unpeeled red potatoes
1 cup each frozen corn, peas and cut green beans
1 can (11-1/2 ounces) condensed bean and bacon soup, undiluted
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Place ham hocks, carrots, celery, onion and water in a Dutch oven or soup kettle; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 2-1/2 hours or until meat starts to all off the bones. , Add potatoes and vegetables; bring to a boil oil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour. Remove hocks; allow to cool. Remove meat from bones and cut into bite-size pieces; discard bones. Return meat to kettle. Stir in bean and bacon soup and pepper; heat through.
