Number Of Ingredients 10

⅔ cup vegetable oil
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
¼ cup molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon ground cloves
⅓ cup white sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl mix oil and 1 cup of sugar. Add egg, beat well. Stir in molasses, 2 cups flour, baking soda and spices. If necessary, add more flour to make a firm dough.
  • Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Roll in 1/3 cup sugar. Place 3 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until tops crack. Remove from baking sheet and cool on rack.

2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup canola oil
1 large egg
1/3 cup molasses
2 cups white whole wheat flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, beat sugar and oil until blended. Beat in egg and molasses. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger and cloves; gradually add to sugar mixture and mix well. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours., Preheat oven to 350°. Shape dough into 1-in. balls; roll in confectioners' sugar. Place 2 in. apart on baking sheets coated with cooking spray; flatten slightly. Bake 7-9 minutes or until set. Remove to wire racks to cool.

2/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 -2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/3 cup sugar, about

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • In a large bowl, combine oil and 1 cup sugar.
  • Add egg, beating well.
  • Stir in molasses, 2 cups flour, baking soda, cinnamon and ginger.
  • If necessary, add a little more flour to make a firm dough.
  • Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls.
  • Roll in 1/3 cup of sugar.
  • Place 3-inces apart on ungreased baking sheets.

I have not tried this recipe yet, but my mom makes it often. She got it from a cookbook that was given as a gift to her.

2 1/2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 1/4 teaspoons ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening, soft
1/2 cup molasses
1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
1 tablespoon water
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
sugar

Steps:

  • Combine flour, soda,ginger,salt and nutmeg in bowl;set aside.
  • Using medium speed of an electric mixer, beat together brown sugar and shortening until fluffy.
  • Beat in molasses just till blended.
  • Dissolve coffee in water and add to brown sugar mixture.
  • Add egg and vanilla;beat just till blended.
  • Stir in flour mixture just till combined.
  • Cover and refrigerate dough until firm, about 4 hrs.
  • Shape dough into balls, using 1 tbsp dough.
  • Roll balls in sugar.
  • Place balls 2 inches apart on lightly greased sheet.
  • Bake at 350 for 12-14 minutes or till they are crackled on top.
  • Cookies will be soft to the touch;do not overbake.
  • let cookies stand for 1 minute on sheets.
  • Place on rack to cool.
  • Store in airtight container.
  • May be frozen.

1 c molasses
4 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp lemon extract
2 tsp ginger
1 c chopped pecans

  • Cream together shortening, butter, and sugar. Blend in egg. Add molasses. Beat until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and ginger. Add nuts. Dough should be soft but not sticky. Chill dough 4 hours. Shape into 1 1/2 in diameter balls. Flatten a little Bake 350 deg 12-15 min. Sprinkle with sugar and nuts.

Add a little more flour if dough is not firm enough. Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls and roll in sugar. Place 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 12 - 14 minutes or until golden brown and tops crack. Remove cookies from baking sheets; cool on racks.

1/4cup butter
1cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/3cup molasses
2cups all-purpose flour
2teaspoons baking soda
1teaspoon salt
2teaspoons ground cinnamon
1teaspoon ground ginger
1/2teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
Ice water
1/2cup granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Combine shortening, butter and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg and molasses; beat well. Add flour and baking soda, salt and spices; beat until well combined. Chill at least 1 hour. Roll dough into walnut-size balls; dip in ice water and then granulated sugar (Dip the balls of dough into cold water then sugar. The sugar sticks to the wet dough in irregular clumps, creating the "dried mud" appearance when the cookies are baked. Place on baking sheet at least 2 inches apart (cookies will spread). Bake 10 to 15 minutes.
