Many years ago, when I was a kid in New York, we used to get these at Victor's Cuban restaurant. Years later, Victor's had become an elegant restaurant--no more batidos from the window for kids who arrived on roller skates. Nothing could be simpler or more refreshing on a hot day. All these years later, I still think they're better sucked through a straw. For those watching calories, use skim milk.

1 -2 cup ice, crushed
1 1/2 cups brown sugar

Steps:

  • To make sugar syrup, boil 1 1/2 cups brown sugar in 2 cups of water. Set aside to cool.
  • In a blender, combine green mango and water. Process until smooth. (If there is no blender, use a large spoon to mash the green mango in the water.).

3.2 oz buddy fruit mango passion & banana
1 pt vanilla icecream
1 Tbsp milk (as prefered)

Steps:

  • 1. Put spoon size chunks of vanilla ice cream into the blender, half of your rum (I have found that a flavored rum, like raspberry flavor, is nice), and half of your Buddy Fruit and blend. Blend until there are only a few chunks left
  • 2. Add the second half of your ice cream, rum, and buddy fruit. Blend until smooth.
  • 3. If you like a thicker shake, just poor (or scoop) into a glass. If you like a thinner shake, you can add a tbl spoon of milk or so, and blend, adding as many tbl spoons as you want for the desired thickness.
