Recipe by Dee Hutchins-Reynozo ~ I remember my mama making this classic one-pot-wonder for us when we were kids. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about it!

1 T. olive oil
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 lg. yellow onion (chopped)
2 stalks celery (sliced)
1 med. green bell pepper (diced)
3 cloves garlic (pressed)
4 c. beef broth
1 (15 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
1 (15 oz.) can diced tomatoes with juice
1 ½ T. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. Italian seasoning
2 tsp. oregano
1-2 tsp. paprika (I use smoked paprika)
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. black pepper
¼ tsp. red pepper flakes
1 bay leaf
2 c. elbow macaroni (uncooked)
1 c. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Fresh chopped parsley (for garnish)

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef. Break up the meat with a wooden spoon and brown until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  • Add onions, celery, green pepper, and garlic. Cook until the veggies are tender about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add beef broth, crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes with juice, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings; stir well.
  • Stir in macaroni until well combined. Cover with a lid and simmer for 18-20 minutes. Remove from heat. Top with shredded cheese and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

My family loves this goulash. It is a dish to feed a large group or two and freezes well. Always better the next day but we normally eat it 1st day too. I hope you enjoy it my way or with your own little twist.

4 c macaroni, elbow dry
1 lb ground chuck or any lean beef
1 small white onion chopped
1/8 tsp oregano, dried
1/8 tsp chili powder
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tsp paprika
3 c water (as needed)
6 oz tomato sauce
2 can(s) tomato soup
1 can(s) corn
1 small can of peas
1/2 c cheeses
1/2 c bread crumbs

Steps:

  • 1. brown meat with onion in pot or skillet at medium heat
  • 2. Add to large skillet or pot-- all seasonings.
  • 3. next step is to add all tomato products and water.
  • 4. add peas and corn
  • 5. add water and macaroni. Cook about 15 minutes.
  • 6. Before goulash has cooked for an hour you finish it off with sprinkled cheeses and breadcrumbs on top. The bread crumbs should brown and cheeses have melted.
  • 7. You can finish off in oven to brown at 350 for 10 min.

This is a wonderful and simple recipe from my German Mother. I usually make this soup a day before serving since it tastes better the day after making it.

2 pounds beef stew meat, diced into 1 inch pieces
salt and pepper to taste
¼ teaspoon paprika
1 onion, chopped
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
8 large potatoes, scrubbed and chopped
1 (16 ounce) can chili without beans

Steps:

  • Season beef with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • Brown seasoned beef and onion in oil until all sides are brown. Cover with water and simmer for 3 to 4 hours or until tender. Add water whenever level goes below the ingredients.
  • An hour before serving, add potatoes and chili.

This is one of my favorite comfort meals when growing up. I still love it today. I made a pot for my folks last night, as they love it even better the next day...They'll be so be happy when I surprise them today. Enjoy!

1 - 2 Tbsp oil
1 large each ~ onion, chopped & large green pepper, chopped
3 large cloves, garlic ~ minced
2 lb ground beef cooked & drained ~ sometimes she would split it up and use some italian sausage too
1 - 32 oz beef broth
30 oz each - chopped tomatoes & tomato sauce
1 tsp each - garlic salt, chili powder, garlic powder, salt & pepper - or to taste
1 Tbsp each - italian seasoning, worcestershire sauce & sugar
1 - 1 1/4 lb ( about 2 1/2 cups ) - elbow macaroni
condiments such as cheese & garlic bread

Steps:

  • 1. In a dutch oven, add some oil and brown the peppers and onions until tender. Add the garlic and cook another minute. Crumble the ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Drain and return to pot. Stir in the tomatoes, sauce, seasonings, broth & Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer & stir in the macaroni and cover pot. Continue simmering for about 30 minutes.
  • 2. Remove from heat and let sit for 15 - 20 minutes. Add more seasoning if necessary. If becomes too thick, add more sauce or tomato juice. Serve with cheese and garlic bread. ***This recipe can easily be halved.

3 tablespoons butter
2 pounds cubed beef stew meat
1 pinch caraway seeds
1 pound onion, sliced
2 teaspoons paprika
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon zest
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (10.5 ounce) can beef consomme
1 (10 ounce) package broad egg noodles, cooked, rinsed, drained (Kosher for Passover)

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the stew meat, caraway seeds, onion and paprika. Cook and stir until the meat is browned, and the onions are translucent. Add the garlic and lemon zest, and cook for about a minute, then stir in the tomato paste and beef consomme, adding water if necessary to cover the meat. Cover, and simmer over medium-low heat for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Just before the meat is done cooking, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add egg noodles, and cook until tender, about 8 minutes. Drain and serve the goulash spooned over the egg noodles.

When my Mama would make this we would all come running to the supper table. It is just a fantastic one skillet meal that everyone loves.

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground hot pork sausage
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
8 oz tomato sauce
14 1/2 oz petite diced tomatoes with juice
1 tsp italian seasoning
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp pepper
2 c beef broth
1/2 c water
1 1/4 c uncooked elbow macaroni
1 c shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • 1. In a large, deep sided skillet brown the ground beef and the sausage, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain off the grease and lower the heat to medium. Add in the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes.
  • 2. Stir in the worcestershire, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes with juice and seasonings. Add the broth, water and uncooked elbow macaroni. Stir to combine, cover and cook till noodles are tender, about 7-8 minutes. Turn off the heat, uncover and top with the cheese. Cover back up and let it sit till the cheese is nice and melted.
